Photo Guru Backup & Restore - Manual

Version 1.5

1. Introduction

Photo Guru Backup & Restore is designed to backup (upload) and restore (download) photos to and from the Zenfolio (www.zenfolio.com) photo hosting service. The program uses advanced programming techniques to perform this task as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The software is available as shareware from www.cmpsoft.com and runs without any restrictions for two weeks. We hope that users will find this software useful and will support future development by purchasing the product.

2. Uploading photos to Zenfolio

In order to upload photos you will need online account with Zenfolio (you can create a free trial account here). Once you have an account and you are ready to upload photos, start Photo Guru Backup & Restore, click on the File menu and select "New Task > Upload photos to Zenfolio".

Enter your Zenfolio username and password and click on Login. Once you have authenticated yourself, you will see 'Logged into Zenfolio' at the bottom of the window:

2.1 - Selecting the upload location

Now select the Zenfolio tab at the top of the screen. Right-click on your username and select 'Add gallery' (Tip: a Zenfolio gallery is a container (folder) for photos. A Zenfolio group is a container that can store multiple galleries).

2.2 - Selecting the photos you want to upload

We will now select the photos that we want to upload to Zenfolio.

Click on the 'Files and Folder' tab. In the upper left corner of the screen you will see a graphical representation of all files and folders on your computer. Navigate to the folder that contains your photos and select the little checkmark to the left of the foldername.

2.3 - Start Upload

Before starting the upload, verify that everything looks OK. Click on the 'Backup Tasks' tab and you will see a table with all photos that you have selected. Each row of the table shows the status of the upload, a small thumbnail of the image, the path of the image on your computer, the (future) path of the image on the Zenfolio server as well as the size of the image.

If everything looks OK, press the Upload button. Before sending photos to the server, Photo Guru Backup & Restore will verify if a photo has already been uploaded. A checkmark indicates that the photo is already present on the server and the 'x' icon indicates that the image has been queued for upload. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection you can choose to upload between one and ten images concurrently (selectable in the 'Options' menu). If you are using a slow connection, use a lower value. If you are using a high-speed Internet connection (DSL, cable or T1 line) use a higher value. Please note that images will get uploaded out of order if you are uploading more than one image at a time (this is unavoidable because some images are smaller and will upload faster than others). In order to solve this problem, select a different sort order under 'Sort Options' tab before starting the backup.

3. Downloading photos from Zenfolio

In order to download photos from Zenfolio you will need a Zenfolio online account. Once you have an account and you are ready to upload photos, start Photo Guru Backup & Restore, click on the File menu and select New Task > Download photos from Zenfolio.

Enter your username and password and click on Login. If you plan to access photos from a different user and you do not know the password, select Anonymous Login checkbox.

3.1 - Selecting files to download

Once you have authenticated yourself, click on the Files and Folders tab. On the left hand side of the window you will see a graphical representation of all Zenfolio groups, galleries and collections. Navigate to the folder that contains your photos and checkmark the photos you would like to download.

3.2 - Selecting the download location

Before starting the download we need to select the directory where the downloaded photos will get stored on the computer.

Now select the Restore Tasks tab and verify that everything looks OK.

3.3 - Start the download

If you are satisfied, press the Start Download button. Before downloading photos from the server, Photo Guru Backup & Restore will verify if a photo is already present on the local computer. A checkmark indicates that the photo is already present on the server and the 'x' icon indicates that the image has been queued for download. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection you can choose to download between one and ten images concurrently (selectable in the 'Options' menu). If you are using a slow connection, use a lower value. If you are using a high-speed Internet connection (DSL, cable or T1 line) use a higher value. Photo Guru will automatically try to download the image in the highest possible resolution. If you are logged in as yourself (with your username and password) Photo Guru will download the original image. If you are logged in as an anonymous (guest) user, Photo Guru will download the image in the maximum resolution that is allowed by the owner of the photo.

4. Purchase & Registration

The software will run without restriction for 14 days from the day it was first installed. Afterwards users are expected to uninstall the software or purchase a license key from our secure online order page. The license key can be entered by starting the software and selecting Help > Register Software.

5. Software Requirements

This library is pre-installed on all computers running Windows Vista and is installed on most computers running Windows XP. If it has not been installed, it can be downloaded from the Microsoft website.

The software is currently not compatible with Apple's Mac OS.
